If the hand contains three of a kind, this is called a pair royal and scores 6 points (as there are three combinations of pairs: AB, AC, BC). (No points are scored for a flush of four cards that comprises three in the hand with the turned up card being the same suit).Įvery pair of cards scores 2 points. If the turned up card is also the same suit, the flush scores 5 points. If all four cards in the players hand are the same suit, this is a called a flush and scores 4 points. Here are the (interesting) rules for scoring a set of cards in Cribbage. A player has four cards in his/her hand, and there is a common card, which is “turned up” to make five. If you are not familiar with the game of Cribbage, this article might not make a lot of sense, but the basic premise of the scoring is based on groupings in sets of five cards.
The scoring happens in rounds, and various combinations/patterns of played cards are given different scores. I’ll not duplicate the rules here, but sufficient to say they are a little different from traditional trick and trump based games.
It probably dates back to 17th Century England.
Cribbage is an interesting (and old) card game.
